Where Was The Sun In Ptolemy S Model Of The Universe

The theory of planetary motion developed by ptolemy from the hypotheses of earlier philosophers stating that the earth lay at the center of the universe with the sun the moon and the known planets revolving around it in complicated orbits.
The geocentric model was the predominant description of the cosmos in many ancient civilizations such as those of aristotle. Eudoxus aristotle s and ptolemy s models have the earth as the center of the universe while aristarchus and copernicus models have the sun as the center. The deferent is a circle and its center is the midway point between the orbiting planet and earth. Beyond the largest of these orbits lay a sphere of fixed stars.
Ad 100 c. Eudoxus model placed a spherical earth at the centre of the universe. 170 one of the most influential scientific texts of all time it canonized a geocentric model of the universe that was accepted for more than 1200 years from its origin in. Copernicus model of the universe and the solar system like ptolemy model but simpler proposed in 1514 by a polish priest nicholas copernicus.
Eudoxus model has 27 concentric spheres for the sun moon planets and the stars whose common center is the earth. In 1514 nicolas copernicus a polish astronomer refuted the geocentric system with his own theory of the universe known as the heliocentric model. Ptolemy s view of the universe is that all celestial objects including planets stars the sun and the moon orbit the earth. At first he quietly published his model due to fear of being accused of heresy his idea was that the sun is the center of the universe and all the planet and star are moving it in a circular orbit.
