Where Is The Sun Located In Our Galaxy
Camila Farah
The sun is about 30 000 light years from the center of the galaxy.
The sun was formed by a larger star from a dwarf galaxy that the milky way galaxy cannibalized and went supernova. The sun is a star on the outer. The milky way galaxy is organized into spiral arms of giant stars that illuminate interstellar gas and dust. From there the sun orbits the center of the milky way galaxy bringing the planets asteroids comets and other objects along with it.
Graphic view of our milky way galaxy. Incidentally the sun orbits the center of the galaxy called the galactic year and sometimes the cosmic year every couple of hundred million earth years but as it does so it bobs up and down with respect to the disk. D three quarters of the way out in the disk. The galaxy s centre was about two thirds away from the milky way s centre and the sun formed about three fourths away from the milky way s centre.
More specifically our sun is in a spiral arm called the orion spur that extends outward from the sagittarius arm. The sun and the solar system is located somewhere at the end of the orion arm local arm of the galaxy. The sun is located in the inner rim of the orion arm which is thought to be an offshoot of the sagittarius. The sun is in the outer edge of one of the arms of the milky way galaxy.
