It is most well known for the annual serengeti migration that involves the mass movement of an estimated 1 5 million wildebeests 250 000 zebras and associated predators through tanzania and kenya. The serengeti is a vast ecosystem in east central africa. The serengeti is a vast land area located in northern tanzania in east africa.
It extends to southwestern kenya and covers an area of 12 000 square miles. It spans 12 000 square miles 30 000 square kilometers according to nasa giving rise to its name which is derived from the maasai. The protected area within the region includes approximately 30 000 km 2 12 000 sq mi of land including the serengeti national park and several game reserves. It is considered to be one of the most spectacular events in the world.
As a national park it is located in the mara and simiyu regions of tanzania. The serengeti is an expansive ecosystem in east africa. Among many savanna regions of africa the serengeti or serengeti plains is the most well known. While the tanzanian part of the land is called serengeti the kenyan side of the land is known as the maasai mara.
