This region of the brain controls emotions and is responsible for emotional responses such as anger happiness and sadness as well as hormones that dictate a variety of body functions. Individuals with high levels of anger tended to have dysfunction or abnormal blood flow in certain regions of the brain that are heavily involved in important cortical functions. By understanding how your body works you can make better sense over why you think and feel what you do when angry.
Centrally located in the brain the amygdala is in the perfect position to interpret stimuli and then communicate it directly to your bodily functions. This part contains two structures the cingulate gyrus and the parahippocampal gyrus. This structure plays an important role in fear and anger. The left prefrontal cortex can switch off your emotions.
Getting control over your anger means learning ways to help your prefrontal cortex get the upper hand over your amygdala so that you have control over how you react to anger feelings. In addition parts of the prefrontal cortex may also play a role in anger. The amygdala is related to feelings of fear anxiety and anger. In collaboration with the hypothalamus the amygdala is responsible for the fight or flight response.

When it comes to anger and the brain the process is not dissimilar to that of fear. Lower levels of blood flow within the basal ganglia may lead to deficits in movement that may not normally be present within individuals with lower levels of anger.
